Eggsperiment in Småland
During Easter break after my study in Sweden began, I travelled to Emmaboda, a small town in the heart of Småland. It is known as the Kingdom of Crystal for its historic glassworks.
Under the tutelage of a local craftsman, I had my first attempt at glass-blowing. The outcome is an egg-shaped piece of glass with pigments of my choosing. I still remember the incredulous look on his face when I told him I would like to pinch one end of the glowing hot globe to make a small opening. This was after the perfect-looking egg had been blown to shape.
"You're really sure you want to cut this open?". He was convinced that it's a better idea to seal the moment with my breath of air inside the egg. I insisted anyway.
The idea was having a clear blue vase with subtle white dusted pattern that evokes a kind of crystal-clear seawater in the sun with foamy white bubbles inviting you to dip in. A reminder of the warm tropical ocean where I come from. And the best part? It is perfectly sized to hold tiny flowers, like the wild anemone shown here.
For the time being, I have found a "cage" and a cute little chicken to accompany the egg :-)
